What causes tooth sensitivity?

The most common cause of tooth sensitivity is excessive mineral loss, also known as demineralization. Many foods or drinks can cause repeated acid attacks on our enamel, and important minerals are lost. When teeth lose minerals, they can become very sensitive. Continued mineral loss with sensitivity can be a sign of early decay. Bleaching teeth can also cause sensitivity. NewEnamel supercharges the remineralization process for strong, healthy enamel. Other causes of sensitivity, such as a cavity or a cracked tooth, merit a visit to a dental professional as directed.

Who gets sensitive teeth?

Sensitive teeth can happen to anyone at any age. People who frequently snack are at-risk for sensitive teeth. Also at-risk for sensitivity include those who frequently consume any of the following: foods or drinks containing sugar and starches; acidic foods such as apples, citrus fruit, berries, kiwis, or tomatoes; drink acidic beverages such as coffee, wine, fruit juice, energy drinks, or sports drinks. Wearing braces, or other oral appliances can lead to sensitive teeth. Taking daily medications, frequent periods of “dry mouth”, or ineffective dental care habits can also increase the risk of sensitive teeth.

Can tooth sensitivity be cured?

There are effective treatments for the most common form of tooth sensitivity. The NewEnamel system features high quality prescription-strength products to maximize remineralization. When key minerals (such as calcium, phosphate, and fluoride) are supplied during remineralization, tooth sensitivity can be significantly reduced. Over-the-counter products may not have sufficient levels of active ingredients. For example, Sensodyne toothpaste often uses ingredients that mask sensitivity, but doesn’t provide prescription-strength remineralization. The NewEnamel system offers the highest levels of enamel repairing ingredients. The NewEnamel system reduces common tooth sensitivity, and even reverses early decay. For best results, consult a dental professional as directed.
